A Chilly Dip / A Terrible Guide

We’re back on shore after a chilly unexpected dip.

My photographer friend and I took a surprising swim after our kayak was swamped by a breaker that hit us broadside. No photos at all on this much-abbreviated kayak trip; with our cameras safely tucked into our dry bags (wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles). Randy had snapped a couple of photos earlier in the ride, but thank the photo juju that we both had our gear back in the bags. It’d be a ton of cash right into the drink. For what it’s worth, keeping the gear dry is more than just a big deal – it is life-and-death as we are finally getting ready for our journey to Brooks Lodge to photograph some Grizzlies.

The problem was caused by a guide who failed to know the shoals and placed us broadside into crashing offshore surf. Rant rant rant!

Would hate to go without our cameras. That’s the whole reason why we came here.

Here is a shot of Randy, just getting ready to dry off. What a mess.
